I said Shahada alone in my kitchen at midnight. Three days later I was on a video call with four sisters who'd done the exact same thing. I stopped feeling like an alien in my own life.

No. Changing your name is a personal, cultural choice — not a religious requirement — unless your birth name has a meaning that contradicts Islamic belief. Many sisters keep their name exactly as it is.
Everyone does, converts and lifelong Muslims alike. Prayer is a practice, not a performance — start with what you can hold in your memory and build from there, at your own pace.

Views and timelines differ across the community. What matters most in the beginning is understanding the why behind it — the how and when can follow at a pace that's sustainable for you.
